What is an AI video generator?

An AI video generator is a model that makes a video clip from a description, rather than from footage. You give it words, an image, or both, and it returns a few seconds of moving picture — often with sound — that no camera recorded.

Most products called an AI video generator are an interface over one or more of these models. The models are made by a handful of labs (ByteDance, Kuaishou, Google, MiniMax and others), and the same model can sit behind several different apps.

How does an AI video generator work?

Most current models learn what moving images look like from a very large amount of video, then work backwards from noise: they start with a clip of static and remove it step by step until what is left matches your prompt. They do that across the whole clip at once, which is how they keep a person or a product looking like the same thing from the first second to the last.

Your prompt steers it. An image you supply pins it down further — as the first frame, the last frame, or a reference for what something should look like. The newer models generate the audio in the same pass, so footsteps land when the foot does.

If you have never made one, the step-by-step is in how to make an AI video.

Three ways to make AI video

They are not rival products — they are three ways of telling the same model what you want, and most finished pieces use more than one.

Text to video

Words only. The model invents the scene, the people and the camera. Fastest way to explore an idea; least control over what exactly appears — which is why it suits b-roll and mood more than a specific product.

Image to video

A still becomes the first frame, and optionally a second still the last. The model only has to invent the motion, so your product, person and framing survive.

How image to video works

Script to video

A script broken into beats, each beat a shot on a storyboard, each shot its own clip, joined into one video at the end. How anything longer than one take gets made.

How the AI video models differ

Every model below takes a first and a last frame and can generate sound with the clip. What separates them is how long a take can be, how sharp, what shapes it comes in, and whether it accepts extra reference images. Quality claims are the makers' own; these specs are the ones our generator enforces.

Kling 3.0 ProKuaishou720p3–15sframes onlyThe take you are keeping, once Standard has settled the shot — the two tiers accept exactly the same lengths, resolutions and ratios.
Gemini Omni 1.1 FlashGoogle720p8sframes onlyClips with sound, generated in the same pass as the picture rather than laid over it afterwards.
Hailuo 3MiniMax2K5–15syesGetting 2K without choosing it — there is one resolution, so there is no size setting to get wrong.

Choosing between them by job — ads, realism, motion, length, price — and how they compare with generators we don't run is in the best AI video generators, by use case. Every image and video model side by side is on the models page.

More questions about AI video

How long can an AI video be?

A single generation is short — usually between 3 and 15 seconds. The longest single take in our studio is 30 seconds, on Seedance 2.5. Anything longer is several clips joined together, which is what a storyboard is for.

Is AI video good enough for ads?

For a lot of formats, yes — product shots, b-roll, scene-setting, short hooks. It is weakest where the exact product has to stay exactly right while it moves (labels, jewellery, hands holding things), and on long continuous takes. Practitioners get around both by starting from a real still and cutting short.

Can I use my own images?

Yes. Every video model in the studio takes a first frame and a last frame, so you can start a clip on your own product shot and end it on another. Some also take extra reference images for a look, a person or a product.

Exporting for a particular placement? The sizes are in Meta ad specs and where the app covers your frame is in TikTok safe zones.
